Wood First Forum

September 10, 2015

This full-day seminar for architects, structural engineers, builders, designers and specifiers brings leading edge projects and practices to the attention of a Pacific Northwest audience via a day of presentations by prominent practitioners in the field. In partnership with BC Wood, we are pleased to welcome to Whistler three international experts in wood design and construction as well as a cadre of local presenters who will demonstrate why BC is fast becoming a region of excellence in contemporary timber construction. Tom Chung, Principal of Leers Weinzapfel Associates of Boston, MA, will present on the new Integrated Design Building at the University of Massachusetts, the first composite CLT building in the northeast US.  Also on the bill will be Simon le Roux, an architect and senior researcher at Aalto University, Finland, who will talk about how the TES Timber-based Element System is being used in various parts of Europe to renovate and retrofit the facades of older multi-family residential buildings, improving aesthetics, energy efficiency and comfort for residents. Our third international speaker is Keisuke Maeda from Fukuyama, Japan, principal architect with UID, who will present several of his award-winning single family home designs featuring innovative uses of wood. More details on the Canadian speakers on the agenda, including UBC’s own timber design researcher Thomas Tannert, will be available shortly.

The Wood First Forum runs back to back with BC Wood’s flagship event, the Global Buyers Mission, which attracts around 700 people to Whistler. For further information and registration, please visit bcwood.com
